Media Network Migration to IP-Based Transport
This whitepaper describes an incremental migration plan for wide area media networks to move away from baseband video transport and towards IP-based transport that integrates directly with local area network endpoint workflows, thereby minimizing signal conversion equipment, delays and costs. The paper also lays out a vision to move away from “nailed-up” circuits towards on-demand bandwidth switching that can still maintain the high quality of service levels that have long been associated with professional media transport services. The intended audience includes both carriers that are looking towards network migration strategies and large media facilities who are considering deploying next-generation private WANs and who may also be large purchasers of carrier services. A key objective is to provide a seamless coupling between the WAN and LAN environments, thereby achieving a completely packet-based transport network from end to end while continuing to maintain a 100% QoS (Quality of Service).
