Director, Engineering & Technical Services

The Director, Engineering & Technical Services is the technical leader of our Americas operations, responsible for providing engineering, project management, and technical support to customers and to our internal operations. The individual in this position will be a key member of the management team, insuring exceptional customer support, managing technical projects, interfacing with customers on engineering matters, and partnering with our sales team and sales engineers to develop and promote innovative technology and systems solutions utilizing Media Links’ products and software. The position will also require extensive interface with the R&D team of our Japanese parent company.

The position is located in the Media Links Inc. office in Windsor, CT, USA office

  • Serve as the technology leader of the US-based company, being an expert on Media Links’ products, our underlying technology and current and emerging industry applications. Be visible in the market and with our customers, championing our Company and products, and carefully listening to customer needs.
  • Insure ‘”world-class” customer support through establishment of processes and procedures for resolution of technical issues, leading, developing and maintaining a superbly skilled technical staff, and developing and executing comprehensive training programs.
  • Develop and maintain technical support schedules and staffing and manage technical team of both direct and indirect reports to insure exceptional response and service to customers.
  • Expeditiously and accurately analyze, develop solutions and resolve customer technical issues either through own work or through close collaboration with both local and world-wide technical support team and R&D.
  • Oversee and manage Company technical projects such as customer lab trials and hardware and software testing programs to insure successful outcomes. Interface with product management, test team management, customer representatives, etc. to insure clarity on goals and drive teamwork & results.
  • In partnership with our sales team, identify solution sets for various customer applications and projects; set up and vet in our lab environment; communicate solutions and train appropriate staff; support customer demos.
  • Ability to see “the big picture”, analyzing customer requirements and industry trends to develop innovative systems solutions that promote the Company’s current and future products. Serve as an “expert” conduit for communication of relevant customer and industry needs and opportunities to our sales, product management, and R&D teams.
  • Recruit and train new staff and contractors as required.
  • Participate in the Company’s presence at trade shows, technical conferences and customer meetings.
  • Provide training to customer and other Media Links’ personnel.
  • Create and deliver technical presentations for industry and customer events.
  • Insure exceptional communication to Management, R&D, Sales and customers.
  • Other tasks as directed by management.

Test Engineer – Global Release Program

The Global Release Program Test Engineer will be responsible for the evaluation and testing of specific new products and software based on the Media Links annual release program and schedule.  The Engineer may also work on the recreation and resolution efforts associated with specific Customer Trouble Reports (CTRs).  The individual in this position will be a key member of the Global Release Test Team which will be engaged in the development and review of new product technical and software specifications and the creation and execution of test plans for both new products and CTRs.  The individual will be responsible for creating specific test plans, performing test activities and writing test reports based on the annual release schedule and assigned CTRs. The Engineer will be expected to become competent on all Media Links’ transport products over time and may participate in other related support activities.

  • Prepare new product and software test plans to effectively test new and existing features.
  • Set up and configure test setups, fixtures, and instrumentation as required by the test plans and or test standards.
  • Operate a variety of computer automated and manual test equipment.
  • Perform tests to verify system functionality and to ensure conformity of product specifications to quality standards.
  • Perform detailed product functionality tests to exercise all parameters and all settings for Video and Ethernet services.
  • Review software screens and software operation for functionality and usability.
  • Prepare and maintain records of performance specifications, programs tested, testing methods used, and results.
  • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of data results through thorough and accurate documentation process.
  • Write test reports and applications notes.
  • Interface with Project Manager, Test Team and Software Development Team members for follow-up and to ensure prompt attention and resolution of problems identified during testing.
  • Provide equipment and software evaluation to Project Manager and Test Team including execution of test plans, test procedures and recording of results.
  • Other tasks as directed by management.

Product Specialist - Network Management Products

The Product Specialist, Network Management Products will be the Subject Matter Expert (“SME”) and project manager for Media Links’ “Element Management System” software application. Our EMS product is an advanced network management application that provides real-time monitoring, reporting and control of our market-leading, WAN-based networking technology for the delivery of broadcast-grade video and data over IP. This position will be the customer-facing voice and champion of the product, will “own” it within the Americas subsidiary, and be responsible for providing oversight and coordination of all Company activities related to the EMS product, including monitoring all aspects of product lifecycle, including long and short term development. You will provide product support and technical expertise to customers; interface with Sales, product management and customers/ prospects; help steer product direction; and create and manage documentation, The position will interface with the third party developers in Europe, communicating issues, bugs, new product requirements and schedules; manage the support from the developers; and provide accurate and ongoing information to management. The individual will work with our sales and marketing teams in product positioning, solutions design, customer demonstrations, and similar activities. As the product’s SME, the individual will often interface directly with customers and Media Links technical support personnel to provide training, problem resolution, and solution support. This position can be a route to product management roles for the right individual.

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for the Media Links “EMS” software product, being completely fluent with the application’s operation, installation, setup & configuration, support, and integration with other Media Links’ products into an operational system.
  • Be highly knowledgeable about the use of the product in customer environments in telecom and broadcast, and assist customer and Company personnel in the development of product solutions.
  • Serve as Project Manager to oversee and manage EMS-related technical “projects” such as customer lab trials, internal product test regimes, and development schedules to insure successful outcomes. Insure clarity on goals and drive teamwork & results. Keep management updated on progress, issues, and schedule changes and escalate when required.
  • Insure ‘”world-class” customer support for resolution of product technical issues, either on own or by engaging and managing other resources, either internal or through the third party developer.
  • Rely on experience, judgment and creativity to accomplish goals, performing a variety of tasks as necessary to elevate marketplace position and customer acceptance.
  • Assist in the creation of product test plans, procedures and recording of results for both internal and customer-based testing and evaluation.
  • Serve as an “expert” conduit for communication of relevant customer and product needs and opportunities to our sales and product management teams, and where appropriate, our R&D team.
